Chapter 6 - Page 79 - Rhasha's Bed

Jim smiled. He lifted the mother’s hand and held it between both of his hands. “You’re going to be OK. God will take care of you.” He kissed her hand and laid it along her side.

He winked at Pepper and walked over to Rhasha’s bed. He kissed Rhasha on the cheek. “Did you see the angels, sweetheart?” he asked. “God sent them to take care of you.” Jim knew Rhasha couldn’t answer him, but he wanted her to know that what she saw was real. “You rest now, sweetheart,” he added, “God is watching over you.”

Jim formed a mental picture of God sitting on his throne. “Thank you, Father.”

The doctor was half an hour late. One of Jim’s fears was already becoming a reality.

Moments later, he heard the sound of a plane flying overhead. He ran out of the hospital and drove to the hangar located at the end of the runway.

Charlie, the pilot, spotted Jim’s jeep as he landed the plane. He taxied to the hangar and shut off the engines. By the time he’d unhooked his seat belt and climbed out of the plane, Jim was standing next to the wing.

   “Charlie, where’s the doctor?”

“He didn’t come, Jim,” Charlie replied. “He said he was to busy today.”

“OK, Charlie,” Jim said, “go see if you can find another doctor somewhere. We have three new patients in the hospital.”

“I’ll see what I can do.” Charlie climbed back in the plane and started the engines.
