Louisiana Law
Another officer rushed
toward Jim, yelling, "You're going
to sign that confession form if I have to
break every bone in your body." He
pulled his pistol out of its holster and
held it in the palm of his hand as he
slapped Jim on the side of his head so
hard, the gun flew out of his hand. Jim
never felt a thing.
Silence filled the room. All
three officers stared at Jim. Finally one
of the officers broke the silence. He
looked at the arresting officer.
"Sarge, what do we do now?"
The arresting officer put
his hand over his mouth, rubbing his chin
with his fingers as he studied Jim."
"Well," he said, "we don't
need a confession. With the evidence we
have and a confession from the girl,
we'll get a conviction."
Jim felt confident God would
protect Rhasha. "Officers," he
said, "God didn't let you harm a
hair on my head. Do you really believe
he's going to let you hurt Rhasha? If I
were you, I'd get down on my knees and
beg God to forgive me."
The arresting officer was
walking toward the door. "I'm not
you, freak," he threw over his
shoulder. At the door he turned around.
"Mark," he said to the officer
with the broken fingers, "you stay
with the prisoner while Gary and I talk
to superman's girlfriend."
Jim smiled as the other two
officers walked through the door. "I
feel sorry for you two," he said.
"You will never get a confession
from Rhasha."
The officers walked
confidently into Rhasha's room. Her heart
was pounding and she was shaking all
over. Rhasha knew they had done something
to Jim, but she didn't know what. She
began to cry as they shut the door.
"Did you hurt Jim?" she sobbed.
There were now three
officers in the room. The two
interrogating officers smiled as they
watched Rhasha cry. She would be easy to
crack.
