Chapter 19 - Page 279 - Louisiana Law

"Little girl," the arresting officer said, "your pimp's on the way to the hospital as we speak."

Anger and hatred transformed her face. That was the wrong thing to say. Her head was hanging low, but her eyes glared at the officers, sizing them up.

Suddenly a blue glow surrounded her. Rhasha felt strength flow into her body from an unknown source. Her wrists were cuffed together behind her back, but Rhasha pulled her wrists apart and the cuffs snapped. She held her arms in front of her, the cuff bracelets still on each wrist, with the two halves of the severed chain dangling from them. God had given Rhasha the strength of ten men. The three officers stumbled back in awe.

The door was locked. No one could get in. Inside the interrogation room, people were screaming. Those outside rammed the door and twisted the knob, trying to get in. They could hear bodies being slammed against the walls, and moans of pain.

Finally, everything became quiet. Even the officers outside the room settled down. A click of the latch. Their eyes fell to watch the doorknob as it turned. The door flew open with such force that it came loose from its hinges. It struck the opposite wall. The young black girl ran out, through the crowd of officers, knocking four of them to the floor as she rushed to the room where Jim was.

Behind her, officers rushed into the interrogation room and found three injured officers lying on the floor. Their shirts were ripped, their faces blood-streaked. One officer's shirt was completely torn off, but his shirtsleeve cuffs were still around each wrist. The desk and chairs were overturned and the desk drawers were lying in the center of the room. Papers from the desk drawers and trash can were scattered all over the floor. The room looked like a tornado had hit it.

Jim's interrogation room door was shut and latched. Rhasha twisted the knob, but it was locked and wouldn't open. She jerked on the knob so hard, it pulled the door and the door frame out of the wall. When she released the knob, the door fell to the floor.
