Chapter 11 - Page 147 - Rhasha Goes Flying

“I love you, Jim,” Rhasha said, “but I can’t make that promise.”

    “Why not?” Jim asked.

“Because someday you’ll go back to America, and I want to go with you.”

Jim hadn’t thought about that. He realized Rhasha would have to fly in planes. Jim recalled his dream again. No one had been with her in the plane. He sighed. “OK, then make me a different promise. Promise me you will never fly in a twin engine plane by yourself.”

Rhasha didn’t understand. Why was Jim pushing her so hard to stay out of planes? She didn’t want Jim to be upset with her, so she constructed a new promise. If he needed a promise, she knew one she could keep. “OK Jim,” she said, “I promise you, as long as we both live, I will never fly in a plane by myself.”

Jim didn’t like the way Rhasha worded her promise, but at least she’d made him a promise she would keep. “If that’s the best you can promise me, I’ll accept that.”

“Good,” Rhasha replied. “So can we get Charlie to take us flying in the hospital plane?”

Jim laughed. “Let me get this straight. First, you thought it would be fun to go flying.”

   Rhasha smiled and nodded.

“Then you refused to promise never to fly in a plane because, you said, you want to go with me to America.”

    Rhasha, still smiling, nodded again.

“Next you promised never to go flying by yourself, as long as we both live.”
