Chapter 11 - Page 146 - Rhasha Goes Flying

The next morning Jim woke up and again Rhasha was wide awake, staring into his eyes.

“Good morning, sunshine,” she said, and held his hand and kissed him on the cheek.

“Good morning to you, sunshine,” Jim said kissing her. “Are you going to do this every morning?”

“As long as we both live,” Rhasha replied solemnly.

Jim hugged her and climbed out of bed. He knelt and said his morning prayer.

In the dining hall, they both chose eggs and bacon, and washed it down with orange juice. Every meal Rhasha ate was like a new experience for Jim. She chewed every bite over and over. When they finished eating, Jim and Rhasha headed for the hospital to visit the patients.

As they crossed the street, Jim heard the distant sound of airplane engines. He knew it was Charlie, coming in with medical supplies. He and Rhasha stopped and watched the plane draw nearer and nearer. The plane roared over them, and circled around the village. Then dropped out of sight as Charlie landed on the runway and taxied to the hangar.

“Jim,” Rhasha said, “I’ve never flown in a plane before. I think it would be fun.”

“No!” Jim blurted, remembering the vision he’d had of Rhasha crashing into the side of a mountain. He strove for a reasonable tone as he added, “Rhasha, planes can be dangerous. Promise me you will never go flying. Ever.”

Rhasha studied his face, remembering the night God healed her. Jim had promised he would be with her every night until she asked him to go. She knew a promise was binding, and that Jim was living up to his promise. She knew if she made this promise, she could never fly in a plane as long as she lived.
