Chapter 9 - Page 119 - New Passion

When he finished praying, Jim pulled the covers back, climbed into bed, and lay on his back. Rhasha crawled in beside him and placed her arm across his chest and her left leg across both of his. Jim’s arm was under Rhasha’s neck and her face pressed against his shoulder. Rhasha’s lips were no more than two inches away from Jim’s-close enough to kiss, so he did. “Goodnight, sweetheart,” he said. He rested his cheek on her head.

    “Good night, Jim.”

As Jim reached to turn the lamp on his night table off, Rhasha said, “Can we sing one song together before you turn the light out?”

“If you want to, sweetheart. What do you want to sing?”

Rhasha smiled. “Would it be OK if we sing ‘This Little Light of Mine?”

Jim grinned. “Rhasha, I love you so much. You’ve been sick so long. You’re like an innocent child.”

Rhasha placed her hand on Jim’s cheek. “You sang that song to me every night when I was sick. I don’t know if I could go to sleep, if you didn’t sing it now.”

Jim slipped his arm out from under Rhasha’s neck, got out of bed, and took his guitar off the hook. Then he sat on the edge of the bed with Rhasha, who had slipped her legs over the side of the bed and sat up.

As Jim began to sing, Rhasha joined in.
“This little light of mine, Lord, I’m gonna let it shine. This little light of mine, Lord, I’m gonna let it shine. This little light of mine, Lord, I’m gonna let it shine. Let it shine, let it shine, let it shine.”

When Rhasha and Jim finished the song, they heard Jackie knock lightly on the bedroom door. “Jim,” he called, “can I come in?”
