- New Passion
Everyone began chanting,
Jim held up his hand to
quiet them. “We’d love to sing
more,” he said, “but I
don’t want to put too much stress on
the patients.”
Several of the patients
murmured that they wanted them to sing
more.
“We’ll be singing
every evening,” Jim said.
“You’re all welcome to come and
listen anytime you want.” He
brightened. “If it’s all right
with Rhasha, and with Reverend Morris,
we’ll also be singing at church
every Sunday.” He looked at Rhasha,
waiting for an answer.
“I’d love to sing
with you every Sunday, Jim,” she
said.
The audience was getting
ready to leave. Jackie turned on the
lights. The bright lights filled the
hospital and the glow around Jim and
Rhasha disappeared. Jim looked up and
noticed the light above them wasn’t
on.
“Jackie,” he
said, “it’s a good thing we
finished singing when we did. The light
above Rhasha and I burned out when you
turned the other lights on.”
“That light burned out
right after you and Rhasha began
singing,” Jackie told him.
“Didn’t you see the streams of
light shooting out and the blue glow
around you and Rhasha?”
Jim thought Jackie meant
that blue fire shot out of the lightbulb
when it blew and caused a blue glow
around him and Rhasha. “No,” he
said, “I guess I was too much into
my music.”
Rhasha knew what Jackie
meant. “I didn’t see it
either,” she exclaimed.
