- Talking Eyes
The little girl closed her
eyes, but she didnt go to sleep.
Jim went to the third bed as
Rhasha went to the second bed. They
visited all twenty-one occupied beds and
kissed each patient on the forehead. They
tried the same communication technique on
all the patients. Several of the patients
blinked their eyes for Jim and Rhasha.
Some were too weak. All the patients
gazed lovingly at Rhasha. They already
loved Jim.
It didnt take Rhasha
long to figure out why Jim spent so much
time with the patients. It made her feel
good all over to be helping people. After
Jim talked to the last patient, Rhasha
pulled her chair up to the bed. She
kissed the elderly woman on the cheek.
Rhasha talked to her and held her hand
between both of her hands.
Jim was impressed as he
watched Rhasha tend to each patient and
pour her heart out to them. He knew she
gave them new hope. She told every
patient she had been a patient, just like
them, when she first came to the
hospital.
Jim went to the office to
talk with the doctor. Sara was filing
away a folder when Jim walked in.
Sara, he asked, are you
busy?
Not right now,
she said, come on in.
Ive got a
question for you.
OK Jim, what is
it?
Would it be all right
if Rhasha and I sing for the patients
every evening? he asked.
Sara replied, I think
three or four songs would be good for the
patients.
