Promise
for
the rest of his life. Jim also remembered
the vision of Rhasha in a plane crash. He
knew he could never tell Rhasha about
that part of the dream.
When Rhasha came out of the
house, she was carrying all her new
clothes. She looked at Jim with a smile
on her face. I just wanted to put
something that belongs to me in my new
home.
Jim understood why and
hugged her. Thamish and Thasha were
standing in the doorway. Jim and Rhasha
waved to them as they crossed the yard.
When they reached Jims
house, Rhasha quickly found an empty
drawer for her new clothes. While Jim
went to the bathroom to take a shower and
shave and brush his teeth, Rhasha looked
around the bedroom, and happiness filled
her heart. She suddenly had an impulse to
throw herself backwards onto the bed. She
lay there with her legs spread wide and
her arms spread across the bed, and felt
good all over.
This is the happiest
day of my life, she murmured. She
was the only person in the room, but she
was sure that the whole world could hear
how happy she was.
Jim had left his bed unmade
the night before, so Rhasha got up and
pulled the covers back into place. She
then put the pillows neatly on top, at
the head of the bed.
Jim came out of the
bathroom, wearing his bathrobe. Rhasha
rushed up to him and grabbed his hands
and pushed them out to each side. She
used her body to push Jims body
against the wall. With his head against
the wall, Rhasha had to stand on the tips
of her toes so she could kiss him.
Mister, she said, I
thought you would never finish.
Rhasha peeled herself off
Jim, then disappeared through the
bathroom door.
