Chapter 1 - Page 5 - Bright Light

from Jim’s shoulder and lifted the microphone to his mouth. When he spoke, it was as though he was talking to Jim and the congregation at the same time. “I pray this is a vision from God,” he said, “and that it will be a blessing for the congregation.” Reverend Cox put his hands together as if to pray. He turned from Jim to look at each and every face in the congregation. “Brothers and sisters in Christ, Brother Jim had a vision here in our church today, and now he’s going to share it with you.”

   Reverend Cox smiled at Jim and handed him the microphone, then quietly moved two steps to Jim’s left side. Both men stood looking at each other, then Reverend Cox, with a gentle smile on his face, nodded for Jim to begin. Jim stood still for a few seconds with the microphone held up to his mouth. The congregation was quiet, sensing the tension.

   Jim put his mouth in motion, but not a word came out. Choking back tears, Jim tried to speak again. Nothing. This time he couldn’t control himself; tears ran freely down his cheeks. Then, receiving strength from the Holy Spirit, Jim opened his mouth to try to speak again.

   “Please forgive me,” were the first words the congregation heard.

With his hands still clasped together as if to pray, Reverend Cox said, “Amen.” Reverend Cox’s motto for the church was Father, please forgive me. It pleased Reverend Cox to hear Jim say the words.

   Three other voices in the congregation echoed Reverend Cox’s “Amen.”

   Jim, still drawing from the strength of the Holy Spirit, was
