Jim And Rhasha's
Big Event
The morning started out like
every Sunday morning. Jim and Rhasha ate
breakfast, then went to the hospital,
where they spent two hours talking to the
patients before rushing to get to church
on time. Reverend Morris said the opening
prayer, then asked Jim and Rhasha to sing
a couple of songs. As they joined Jackie
and Simbatu onstage, they couldn't keep
their eyes off each other. In less than a
week, they would be husband and wife.
"I was
sinking deep in sin, far from that
peaceful shore," Jim and Rhasha
sang. "Very deeply stained within,
sinking to rise no more. But the master
of the sea heard my despairing cry, and
from the waters lifted me, now safe am I
. . . "
The congregation had heard
all Jim's songs so often, everyone knew
the words by heart. The congregation
joined in, and their singing could be
heard all over Angel Town:
"Love lifted me. Love lifted me.
When nothing else could help, love lifted
me . . . "
As they sang, Jim remembered
what Jesus told him, the day he was
saved. The words came to Jim as if they
had just been spoken:
"I am the way, Jim. Let me come into
your heart and you will never be alone
again."
Jim had had no way of
knowing at the time that his life would
change drastically. Who would have
thought that he would fall in love with a
beautiful young black girl? A girl who
made him the happiest man on earth.
Rhasha had thoughts of her
own, but of a different nature. She
remembered all the times Jim had prayed
for her. Any man who really loved
a woman, she
thought, would want her to go to
heaven.
Rhasha felt proud that Jim loved her that
much.
