Field Of Flowers
When Jim woke up, daylight
streamed through the window. He could
hear whispering, but didn't know what was
going on. When Jim turned over, he could
see Rhasha was already awake and facing
away from him. Francis and Shanha sat on
the bed next to Rhasha, and Shanha was
holding Rhasha's hand and telling her
that she had pretty eyes. When Shanha saw
Jim turn over, she kissed Rhasha on the
forehead and jumped over Rhasha to sit on
Jim's stomach. Francis looked confused;
she didn't understand what Shanha was
doing.
Rhasha and Shanha smiled and
looked into Jim's eyes. "Good
morning, sunshine," they said in
unison. Jim smiled back, knowing what
they were going to say next: "You
have very pretty eyes."
Jim winked at Francis as she
clapped her hands together and laughed.
"All three of you girls have pretty
eyes, too," he replied. "Good
morning, angels." Jim hugged both
girls.
Francis knelt on the side of
the bed and leaned over Rhasha. She
looked at Jim and smiled.
"Yes," she said, "you do
have pretty eyes."
"Thank you," Jim
said, "but your eyes are
prettier."
They all walked to the
dining hall together to eat. When they
finished breakfast, Jim and Rhasha
decided to go to the hospital, and
Francis and Shanha joined them. The
hospital now had eighty beds, and all but
one was occupied. Eight new patients had
been admitted since they went to America.
The new patients didn't know Jim, Rhasha,
or Shanha, but all the previous patients
were thrilled when the trio entered the
hospital and Jim and Rhasha began talking
to the patient in bed one. Francis got to
see firsthand how Jim and Rhasha behaved
toward each patient, and she remembered
her vision, and how Jim and Rhasha had
cared for Shanha, and she loved them for
it.
