Shanha Talks To
Jesus
Jim whispered an idea to
Shanha. She nodded excitedly. Jim
whispered the same message to Rhasha,
Jackie, and Simbatu, then he and Simbatu
began playing. A hush fell over the
congregation as Shanha began to sing.
"My
mommy told me something that every kid
should know. It's all about the devil and
I learned to not like him so."
Shanha smiled at her mother.
Francis was so excited, she looked like
she wanted to leap up and dance. All eyes
were on Shanha as she sang.
"She
said he causes trouble when you let him
in your room. He'll never ever leave you,
if your heart is filled with gloom. So
let the sunshine in. Face it with a grin.
"Smilers never lose and
frowners never win, so let the sunshine
in. Face it with a grin. Open up your
heart and let the sunshine in.
"When you are unhappy,
the devil wears a grin, but he's oh-so
gloomy when the light comes pouring in. I
know he'll be unhappy, cause I'll never
wear a frown. Maybe if we keep on
smiling, he'll get tired of hanging
around.
"If I forget to say my
prayers, the devil jumps with glee, but
he feels so awful, awful when he sees me
on my knees. So if you're full of trouble
and he never seems to leave, just open up
your heart and let the sunshine in. So
let the sunshine in, face it with a grin.
Smilers never lose and frowners never win
. . . "
The meeting area continued
to fill with new arrivals as Shanha sang.
When Shanha finished, she stood smiling
at her mother. Fran's face glowed with
happiness, but tears still eased down her
cheeks. Jim and Rhasha knelt down to kiss
and hug Shanha.
