Chapter 1 - Page 3 - Bright Light

Please guide me every day in the way you would have me be. In Jesus’ Holy name, I pray. Amen.”

The children had finished their song. Reverend Cox stepped up to give a sermon about Moses and the Ten Commandments. He spoke about the golden calf and God’s punishment for Moses. Jim listened eagerly to every word. He wanted to learn all he could about the Bible.

Reverend Cox ended the sermon with a prayer. “Lord,” he prayed, “forgive us of our sins; our righteousness is as filthy rags. Speak to your children, Lord-every single heart-and may those come to you who will do your bidding. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

   The congregation began singing,
“Just as I am without
one plea, and that thou bids me, come to thee . . . ”

Without hesitation, Jim slipped from his pew and walked down the aisle toward the altar, tears still in his eyes. Jim had never been so happy in his life. He knew now that he was a child of God. He approached the altar with his heart lifted and his sins forgiven. The love of the Holy Spirit completely filled him.

Reverend Cox reached out to shake Jim’s hand. Jim clasped it. “Brother Cox,” Jim said, “as I sat in the back of the church, I saw a vision.”

Reverend Cox hesitated. He stared at Jim. “Jim, are you sure it was a vision?”

“Yes, Brother Cox,” Jim replied firmly. “A window opened up into heaven and I saw Jesus as a light that sparkled. He held his arms out and spoke to me.”
