movements returned to normal speed.
Sounds could be heard in the room again.
Jim looked at Thashas
face. Her tears were gone. She appeared
calm and relaxed. He knew the message
from heaven had told Thasha that Rhasha
would not die.
All along, Thamish had
looked like he couldnt figure out
if Jim was a con artist or just a good
person. Thamish didnt know God, but
he believed that Jim cared about Rhasha.
He led his family over to
her bedside. They looked at her face.
Rhashas eyes were open. She had
been awake the whole time.
Drained by the emotional
experience, Thamish and Thasha and their
son soon left. They slowly walked across
the street to their new home.
Jim stayed with Rhasha and
read the Bible to her. The doctor and
nurse had been in the doctors
office, watching everything that
happened. When Jim started reading the
Bible, they came out of the office and
pulled up chairs to listen. Jim read the
Bible for three hours. Rhasha, the
doctor, and the nurse listened to every
word he read.
The doctor finished his ten
hour shift at eight oclock and went
home. When Jim finished reading, Betty,
the nurse, picked up the Bible and went
into the office to read more by herself.
Jim sat in a chair next to Rhasha and
held her hand between both of his. Rhasha
didnt sleep; she seemed curious, as
though she wanted to see what Jim would
do next. She lay with her face tipped
toward him.
Rhasha, Jim
said, you have very pretty eyes.
Youre a pretty girl. Sweetheart,
youre very special to me. He
hesitated and gazed into her eyes.
Rhasha, for a few days
