Chapter 6 - Page 65 - Rhasha's Bed

“I have houses for you,” Jim went on. “The houses are small, but they will protect you from the weather. All the houses have three bedrooms, a living room, a kitchen, and a bathroom.”

Jim led them across the road and assigned the two families houses next to each other. He explained to them that they could live there as long as they wanted to, or until they could support themselves. “You can use the swimming pool anytime you desire,” Jim said. “I only ask that at least two adults be present when children swim. I’ll buy new clothes for you in a few days. OK,” Jim said, “these are your homes. Feel free to go inside.”

Thamish and Rantutu thanked him and shook his hand. The new tenants went inside to check out their new homes.

Jim went back to the hospital and pulled a chair next to Rhasha’s bed. He clasped her left hand between both of his hands. Her eyes were closed, so he didn’t talk to her.

“Father,” Jim said, “Rhasha is a sweet girl who could be a blessing to you, here on earth as well as in heaven. I’ll teach her all about you, Father. I’ll read the Bible to her whenever I have a chance.”

Thamish and his family stood quietly and listened to Jim pleading for Rhasha’s life. “Father, someday she could have children that could serve you through eternity.
