Louisiana Law
"Yes," Jim
replied. "I have a teenage girl and
a seven-year-old girl with me."
"Get 'em out of the
truck," the officer commanded.
Jim saw two more police cars
pull up behind the second police car. All
their lights were flashing. The dog never
moved a muscle. "Officer," Jim
asked, "what's with all the patrol
cars? What's going on here?"
The officer stuck the
driver's license under Jim's chin and
flipped it upwards. "I said to get
those girls out of the truck."
Jim looked at the officer
with cold eyes. "Sir," he said,
"you don't have any reason to harass
me or my girls."
The officer grabbed Jim's
arm, twisted it behind his back, and
shoved him against the truck. Jim's truck
folder was knocked out of his hand.
"Put your hands up on the side of
the truck," the officer demanded.
Jim placed his hands on the
side of the truck as the officer spread
Jim's legs apart with his foot.
"What you're doing is illegal,"
Jim said.
The officer ran his hands up
and down Jim's body. "We'll see who
goes to jail," he said, grinning.
When he finished the body
search, the officer slapped handcuffs on
Jim's left wrist and twisted his arm
behind his back. He grabbed Jim's right
arm and twisted it behind him also. The
other officers rushed up to assist the
arresting officer, but he had already
latched the cuffs on Jim's wrist.
Rhasha had watched what was
going on through the truck mirror. She
jumped into the driver's seat and kicked
the door open, then jumped down to the
ground. Shanha was close behind her.
"What are you doing to
him?" Rhasha screamed. "Leave
him alone." She hurried to check on
Jim, but the arresting officer grabbed
her, spun her around, and shoved her
against the side of the truck.
Shanha ran toward Jim.
"Papa, Papa!" she cried. Tears
running down her face. "Is that bad
man hurting you?"
