- New Addition To
The Family
She sure is,
sweetheart, Jim replied, and
after we eat breakfast, were going
to go to The Factory and get you some
pretty clothes, too.
Thank you, Papa. I
want to be pretty, like Mama.
Shanha, Jim
said, you have a beautiful face,
but the important thing is . . .
youre a very sweet girl. That makes
you beautiful on the inside, as
well. She giggled as Jim kissed her
on the forehead. No matter what
happens in life, always stay pretty on
the inside, and you will always be pretty
on the outside.
I will, Papa,
Shanha replied. I want you to be
proud of me.
Rhasha added,
Papas a good example of being
pretty on the inside. Jim could
tell that Rhasha was getting ready to
tease him again. You see,
Shanha, Rhasha continued,
because Papa is so pretty on the
inside, it makes him not quite so ugly on
the outside. She winked at Shanha.
Shanha played along.
Yes, Mama. It sure is lucky for
Papa that hes pretty on the
inside.
Jim stuck out his lip and
acted hurt. Rhasha kissed him on the
forehead, so Shanha did the same.
They were interrupted by a
knock on the living room door. Jackie had
come to walk with them to the dining hall
for breakfast.
It was seven oclock in
the morning and villagers were busy all
over town. Everyone had heard what
happened at the hospital the day before.
They were all trying to make their new
neighbors feel comfortable. Jim saw some
people, still clad in their hospital
gowns, walking to The Factory to get new
clothes. When they entered the dining
hall, Jim saw people helping the cook.
Others cleaned tables and washed dishes.
