Chapter 9 - Page 112 - New Passion

Thamish fetched Jim’s guitar. “Would it be OK if Thasha and I went to the hospital to hear Jim and Rhasha sing?” he asked when he returned.

“Sure, Thamish. Thirteen other people are already there.”

Thamish and Thasha walked with Jackie toward the hospital. They passed several people along the way, and Thamish told them about the singing event. Some of the people he told walked with them to the hospital. Other people he told went home to tell their families. Their families told other families. Shortly, sixty-seven more people straggled into the hospital.

Jackie gave Jim his guitar and sat down in the aisle between the beds. The sixty-seven new arrivals sat on the floor around Jackie.

Jim and Rhasha began to sing. They sang as though they were at a concert.

“Oh lord, my God, when I in awesome wonder consider
all the worlds thou hands hath made . . . ”

As they sang, the lightbulb above Jim and Rhasha’s heads burned out. There should have been complete darkness, but a strange glow surrounded them. They didn’t know the lightbulb had blown-they kept singing.

“I see the stars. I hear the rolling thunder.
Thy power throughout the universe, displayed. Then sings my soul, my savior, God to thee. How great thou art. How great thou art.”

A man’s voice in the audience yelled, “Look, it’s beautiful.”

“Praise God in heaven,” the nurse called.

    Several voices oohed and aahed.
